Every year before GoCycle I always ask myself, why do this? I mean, look at the risk involved,
consider the finances required, think about the safety of those doing this with you, what conflicts will
I have to face within the team, is it worth it?
The more I think about these, the more these seem like definite reasons for not doing GoCycle. Then
there is the other side, consider the children we would speak to, the places we would reach, the
communities we would touch, the young people we encourage, the adventure of cycling across
different terrains & exploring places we would otherwise never step foot on, it simply lifts my spirit to
go further!
The real reason though is conviction! The conviction of wanting to let people know of a hope that will
change lives for eternity. The conviction of believing that GoCycle is Spirit inspired, Christ centred
and Community oriented. The conviction that it’s not about me but it’s about obeying Him! Christ
Jesus.
David ran into the battle field not because he thought he had a sling and five stones, not because of his
past experiences of overcoming the bear and the lion, no not even because he believed he can take
down the giant with single minded determination no! David ran into battle because of his conviction
that God was always with his people, something that the other Israelites had forgotten! David raises
the Lord’s banner against Goliath while his other country men tried to raise their own.
Raising the Lord’s banner is believing that he who has begun this good work will take it to completion
until the day he arrives! Yes, this is the driving force! So it is with GoCycle and me.
Scripture:
“These are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit.” 2 Cor 2:10
Key Lesson: Conviction helps one progress from superficiality to genuineness. It is reason for
focused action, above all, it needs to be Spirit driven.
